What is a Squint-Word Puzzle?
Take puzzle one, of book one, of the series, for example:
ABLMHSXPTZRQKFYVGWNDOJIECU FOSTWY ......
You are asked to find the longest word
spelled out in a broken fashion (see below)
in the given permutation of the alphabet.
Obviously,
I do not come right out and tell you
the sought-after word is syndic
That would defeat the purpose.
By the way,
syndic is a bona fide dictionary word.
A syndic is a municipal magistrate in some countries.
A syndic is also an agent of a university or corporation.
FOSTWY is the key to SYNDIC.
For starters,
the length of FOSTWY tells you the length
of the sought-after word is six letters.
Furthermore:

and
